Elite Sport Aarhus was founded in 2001 to promote and support elite sport in the region of Aarhus. The aim is to make Aarhus ‘the best place for developing sport talents in Denmark’.

The main focus of Elite Sport Aarhus is threefold:

• To give economic support to local elite sport athletes or clubs during donations from the Elite Sport Aarhus Fund.
• To facilitate elite training sessions in a partnership with the local elite sport clubs.
• To be a local partner to the national elite sport organization Team Danmark.

Elite Sports Akademi Aarhus (ESAA) is an institutional set-up that provides young talented athletes with the opportunity to combine an academic career with an elite sports career.
ESAA is based on a partnership model with the local elite sport clubs, local educational institutions and the national sport federations. At the moment ESAA co-operate with 15 different sports with more than 350 athletes, 2 primary schools, 9 secondary schools (gymnasium and vocational) and the University of Aarhus.

The objective of ESAA is to facilitate a frame that optimizes the combination of education and elite sport adapted to the individual athlete special needs. In other words ESAA is focusing on long term athlete development in the triangle between education, social life and sport.
In addition ESAA organizes additional training. In 15 sports there are 2 trainings sessions every Tuesday and Thursday mornings and 3 sessions of physical training per week.
Every year ESAA has several courses to give the athletes knowledge upon sports specific issues as sports psychology, nutrition & sport, Anti-Doping etc.
